| "When you want something, it is natural instinct to go out on a limb to get it. These squirrels were doing acrobatic tricks, hanging from their feet and tail, and reaching for the maple seeds, shelling and eating them. They would hang from the smallest limbs many bending under their weight, and reaching as far as they could to grab and eat the seeds." Ozark River Wildlife | ![]() |

Quotes of the times we're in: "Customer and Friend's Eleven Point River Canoe Float Trip Report" "I emailed you some time back and you sent me some great info on the Eleven Point. We checked it out this weekend and you were correct, it is totally AWESOME!!!!!! We floated from Turner's Mill to Riverton. The Turner and Boze Mills were really cool, didn't get to check out the cave and will do that this fall for sure. Saw two snakes and alot of wildlife!! We left to float before ya'll opened and did not get back in time before you all were closed for the night. We had a wonderful meal at the Possum Grape Cafe. Really did like the remoteness of that area. I am taking my seven year old on his first canoe trip this fall before cold weather and will see you then for sure. Thanks again for the info!!" | Just hanging around the store talking to folks one day, we had an unexpected visitor. A road runner strolled in our store and headed for the window. Upon seeing this visitor, he evidently had it in mind he wanted a paddle. Us figuring the decision making process was a bit much, helped him toward the door. He strolled on down the sidewalk to "duck in the shop" next door! It was indeed his shopping day in Alton! We enjoyed his visit. Ozark River Company kayak store visitor, a Road Runner! | ![]() |

Quotes of the times we're in: A Four Year Old Grandson came to visit us "on the river". He spent the holiday weekend with us, as the rest of the family did, and had a great time playing in the water. As he was leaving to go home at the end of the weekend he asked, "Will you keep this river beach for me grandma and grandpa?" We said, "well sure." With a moment of thought, he put his hand on his hip and said, "I want to buy this place." |

| It was dark and cloudy on the river, and as I pulled away and drove into full sunshine, I realized the small weather system the eleven point river had created with it's own misty cloud. Looking back, there it was.... (Click on the picture for a large printable version or for a computer back ground if you like.) | |

| "Quotes of the times were in: "The Big City, The Real Jungle?" | |||
| "Small town local folk" to our Alton, MO were heard talking in our store, "We went up to the big city last weekend and were so nervous with all the traffic. There were people everywhere, and cutting us off like they were mad at us! The stores were so busy, that we had to wait 45 minutes to check out, people were even shoving each other. "I was scared to death half the time! It was a jungle up there and I am so glad to get back to the woods. I even hate walking into buildings that look down on you..." | |

a very muddy boy... as a child, there was a horse pasture behind our house in suburbia, with a little shallow pond that would fill up and cover a pretty big area after a good rain. one evening after dwelling on it with deep curiosity; and wanting to "float on it", it became that weekend's obsession. with an old mattress, a large piece of sheet plastic and some twine, wrapped the bottom of the mattress and tied it up with the twine. after finding the right stick, shoved her off in the water and climbed on, and poled all over that little pond all weekend! it was one of the most memorable times as a child! it was then i thought, wouldn't it be cool to have a little boat? any little boat... to explore water, now that would be awesome... (now-a-days, they do. that would have been a memory bender...) |

You never know who might be playing, lurking around the tree in the woods. It might be one of your own fawns... |

"Commitment to get it done..." When the animals in the wild have a goal of survival they have commitment. They search for food relentlessly until they find it and are satisfied, they also seek out private and safe places to bed down, to roost, to nest, depending on the animal or bird. They have commitment in seeking and finding a mate, to the point that the strong survive. They also feed and train their young until they are strong to go out in the wild and be an independent and future part of the chain of life, focus on a pretty specific long term goal. When I was young I was always told the phrase, "I wish I knew then, what I know now". Maybe that is it. The specific goal is set and relentless persistence and commitment it takes to get it done. |
